The Poconos are a 2,400-square-mile escarpment (Land lifted up by geology) overlooking the Delaware River. The Delaware Water Gap is a cut through the mountains made by the Delaware
River. The mountains are bordered on the north by the Poconos Lake
region. This is typically defined as the area around Lake Wallenpaupack.
On the west by the Wyoming Valley and the Coal Region cities of
Hazleton, Wilkes Barre and Scranton, and on the south by the Lehigh
Valley areas around Easton, Bethlehem and Allentown.
